This video demonstrates a precautionary engine shutdown.
Note the care taken to increase power and confirm the desired configuration before calling for the shutdown.
In the example video the airplane is on vectors for an approach and configured with approach flap and gear up when the shutdown is initiated. The pilot decides to retract all flaps and gear. Note that if the shutdown was initiated once established on the approach it is likely that the gear and approach flaps would be left extended.
