By the end of the first semester here is what you will be able to do in the ALSIM:
- Takeoff, climb, cruise, descent, missed approach - SOPs
- Track VOR, ADF, GNSS
- Perform very efficient TSI
- Fly a DME arc
- Fly a straight-in VOR approach from an arc or transition
- Fly an RNAV SID

Don't worry about engine starts and emergencies in this semester. Concentrate on learning TSI and tracking.
Learn your SOP calls - spend as many hours as possible with a partner at the static trainer rehearsing all the SOP calls and learning your checklist flows. TIP: you don't need to know the before-start flows until lesson 5 so initially concentrate on mastering calls and flows from After Start Checklist.

By the end of second semester, i.e. end of first year here is what you will be able to do in the ALSIM:
- Intercept Any Course using VOR, ADF, GPS
- Fly any full procedure VOR or ADF approach (standard and s-turn arrivals)
- Fly an RNAV STAR
